WHA was incorporated on November 12, 1997 and is a charity registered in the UK. Through its office in London, England, WHA brings together the efforts of almost 40 national headache organizations in nearly 30 countries in different parts of the world – together speaking on behalf of those whose lives are affected by headache disorders.
WHA proudly liaises with the International Headache Society (IHS), a professional scientific group with a similar mission, in furtherance of the fundamental belief in the strength of the patient-physician partnership.
In cooperating with its partners, WHA strives to inform, influence and interact with policy makers and those responsible for developing services and support for people affected by headache disorders.
WHA encourages and facilitates education, mutual support and exchange of views within and between existing headache organizations and assists with the development of new organizations where none currently exist.
In the past 10 years, WHA has successfully hosted a number of global conventions, published the WHA Website, established a World Headache Awareness Month, worked with its members on governmental affairs and media training initiatives, and has developed a relationship with the World Health Organisation through its official partnership in Lifting The Burden Campaign.
