WHA was the lead NGO in the partnership between World Health Organization, International Headache Socitey (IHS) and European Headache Federation Federation (EHF) when the Global Campaign to reduce the burden of headache worldwide was launched for the initial five year period in 2004.

In 2009, Lifting The Burden (LTB) campaign had reached sufficient independence to become a separate entity. Lifting The Burden, registered charity no. 1130642 and company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales no 6943628 was incorporated in the summer of 2009.
