Headache, Sleep Problems Connected in Children: Mayo Clinic Report
Mayo Clinic researchers have found that frequent headaches in children appear to be associated with sleep problems. More than two-thirds of children studied who suffer from chronic daily headache also experience sleep disturbance, especially delay in sleep onset. For children with episodic headaches, one-fifth had sleep problems. Only 20% of all migraine sufferers in France are medically followed for migraine, according to a study presented at the 9th Congress of the European Federation of Neurological Societies in Athens, Greece in September 2005. A preliminary study suggests that topiramate (Topamax) may be an effective migraine preventive therapy in children. Topamax, an anticonvulsant, was initially developed to treat epileptic seizures.
