Headache is a condition that is most often managed in primary care, by general practitioners or pharmacists. However, more of the guidelines for management have been aimed at headache specialists.
Plans are now underway to bridge that gap with the creation of a task force to develop principles for the management of headache in primary care. A joint initiative from the Lifting the Burden Global Campaign on headache, the European Headache Federation and the European Headache AIliance these principles aim to help primary care physicians correctly diagnose and treat headache disorders, while also identifying those headaches that require more specialist care.
These principles should be completed and issued in 2007.
